Is uPVC suitable for the UAE climate?

Accepted Answer

Modern uPVC profiles manufactured for Gulf climates are UV-stabilised and formulated to withstand sustained temperatures up to 80°C without distortion. The Vetromax range we supply is specifically validated for UAE conditions. The key risk with cheaper, non-stabilised uPVC is surface yellowing and brittleness — which our systems avoid with TiO2 UV stabilisation baked into the profile compound.

Is uPVC better than aluminium for soundproofing?

Accepted Answer

uPVC frames have a slight natural acoustic advantage over aluminium because the PVC material absorbs vibration better than metal. However, the dominant factor in acoustic performance is the glass specification — a laminated glass unit with an asymmetric pane thickness is far more effective than frame material alone. In practice, a well-specified uPVC window with acoustic laminated glass can achieve 44–48 dB Rw, suitable for most Dubai residential noise environments.

Do uPVC windows require painting or maintenance?

Accepted Answer

White uPVC windows require no painting. Clean the frames with warm soapy water annually — do not use solvent-based cleaners, which can attack the surface. The hardware (hinges, handles, espagnolette locking bars) should be lubricated annually with a light machine oil. Surface scratches cannot be polished out of uPVC — very minor marks fade with UV exposure, but deep scratches remain visible. This is the main aesthetic limitation of uPVC versus powder-coated aluminium.
