How wide can a bi-folding door opening be?

The Cortizo Bi-fold system accommodates openings from 1.2m up to 6m+ in a single run. Individual panel widths range from 500mm to 1,000mm. For openings wider than 6m, we configure two opposing runs that meet at a centre post or fold to one side. Maximum panel height is 2,700mm for standard configurations.

Which way should bi-fold doors open — inward or outward?

Accepted Answer

Both are possible. Outward-opening bi-folds allow the full floor area inside to remain clear, which is aesthetically preferable for living room openings onto terraces. Inward-opening folds require slightly more internal floor clearance but are better suited to locations where the fold would obstruct outdoor furniture or a pool edge. We advise at survey stage based on your specific layout.

Are bi-fold doors thermally broken?

Yes — the Cortizo Bi-fold uses polyamide thermal break bars across all sash and frame profiles, achieving a comparable thermal performance to our casement window range. This makes them suitable for air-conditioned interiors where thermal bridging at the frame is a concern.

Can bi-fold doors include a traffic door for everyday use?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Any panel in a bi-fold configuration can be designated as a traffic leaf — an independently hinged door that opens conventionally without operating the full fold. This is standard practice for kitchen and dining openings where you need frequent access without opening the full system.
